About the website & me

The Fifty-Plus (50+) travels website

The Fifty-Plus (50+) website intends to share news, information, articles and photos relating to tourism viewed from the Fifty-Plus perspective.

I am a 68 year old travel enthusiast and have experienced first-hand the issues and problems facing my peers when they travel. Through this endeavour, I hope more and more Fifty-Plus are encouraged to not merely travel, but savour the journey, too.

Readers are invited to ask questions and I would try to reply to the best of my knowledge. Of course, they would be well advised to double check the information given on this website before deciding their travel plans.

Disclaimer: Fifty-Plus (50+) does not sell travel packages, air tickets,  hotel rooms or travel insurance.

That’s me

I passionately love travelling and have done so extensively in India and abroad. I have, variously, touched the Arctic and Antarctic Circles, posed before Machu-Pichhu, explored the Peruvian Andes, and travelled solo in the Patagonia area of Argentina and Chile, Europe, USA and Canada – all after crossing fifty.

An offshoot of this love for travel has found me exploring the Himalayas, too. I have trekked to Gomukh, Yamnotri, Valley of Flowers, Hemkund Sahib, Kidarnath, Purana Kidar, Har-Ki-Doon, Dodital and up to a little short of the mysterious lake Roopkund.

I continue to visit the various states of our beautiful and amazing country and have made it a point to go for a trek at least once every year.

If you promise not to hold it against me, I will share that I have a Doctorate of Philosophy from University of Paris XI (Orsay) and that I retired from the Indian Administrative Service in 2003. Additionally, I have interest in cemeteries, and have penned 14 books till now.

My icon is the 100+ year old marathon runner Shri Fauja Singh who lives in UK and recently won the 42 kms full marathon, in his category, held in Canada.
